PREPARATION GUIDE FOR MAKEUP AND HAIR SERVICES

As a hair and makeup artist, my only destination is to leave my clients fully fulfilled.

After almost 20 years in the field of beauty, I have seen repetitive hiccups that can easily be avoided.

GREAT HAIR AND MAKEUP TAKES TWO TO TANGO

I'm sharing a few simple preparation tips that will go a long way in assuring that you are looking your best on camera and in person.

HAIR PREPARATION

THE MOST IMPORTANT...

START WITH FULLY DRY AND CLEAN HAIR

Please wash and blow dry your hair the day before your services.

Professional styling simply does not work well on dirty or oily hair.

On the day of your services, any moisture in your hair will cause curls to fall and the styling will not hold. This is why I strongly recommend washing and drying the day before.

PLEASE DO NOT GO TO BED THE NIGHT BEFORE WITH WET HAIR

Everyone has cowlicks and if they do not have heat treatment, it is not possible to reverse your hair direction. This leads to less volume, splitting and hair that does not cooperate with the styling.

FOR THIN HAIR

Or for added volume, you can blow dry your hair upside down and add a volumizer at the roots.

NO OILS OR SERUMS

Please do not add oils or serums as this will also interfere with the styling.

Please pass this information on to any of your guests who are also having styling services.

SKIN PREPARATION FOR MAKEUP

For a natural glow with minimal foundation, I use high quality hypoallergenic products that are light and sheer.

When it comes to sheer and glowy makeup, it is a dance between products, application technique and the clients complexion.

EXFOLIATION

We want the makeup to last and to look great on camera as well as in person.

I notice a significant difference in clarity and smoothness with clients who have a regular regimen of deep exfoliation and hydration.

If your skin is dry and flaky the foundation will look cakey, despite how great the foundation is. Any kind of makeup on top of dry and flaky skin will make it look more noticeable.

Using a chemical or physical treatment. Scrub the skin with a cream, oil or a balm cleanser and a wet wash cloth. This can be done the night before your event or the morning of.

FACE SHAVING OR DERMAPLANING

I cannot rave about this step enough. I personally dermaplane my skin once a week and the results are incredible. Makeup applies flawlessly on skin that is free of facial hair. Dermaplaning is also great for exfoliation. You can see a professional or you can find a facial razor at your local drug store.

I start all of my sessions with a alpha hydroxy exfoliating treatment. As this product is not intended for the eye area it is important to exfoliate dry skin around the eyes.

BROW MAINTENANCE: Brow hair below the natural shape of the brows will make the shadows look muddy and dry. This will be accentuated on camera.

I recommend plucking your brows before your session or seeing a professional for brow hair removal.

These steps will really help to achieve the natural glow that is highly requested.
